Lunch lecture Mieloo&Alexander

At the end of Q2 we were visited by two former TEL students from Mieloo & Alexander (M&A) who lectured forty MME students about their company. They explained the main goal of M&A is to add information to a process in order to optimise it.  One of the techniques they use is RFID technology to track the locations of products for different clients. For example M&A was able to raise the inventory accuracy of a leading fashion retailer by using RFID tags on its products. Besides, M&A uses RFID stickers to keep track of spare parts in a warehouse of a car manufacturer.  Furthermore, it was said how a day of a Business & Technology consultant at M&A looks like and what skills are used for this job. In conclusion, it was an interesting lecture and we hope to visit M&A later this year!

Lunch lecture Royal HaskoningDHV

Last week Royal HaskoningDHV hosted an online lunch lecture for our students to present their business and latest projects. Royal HaskoningDHV is an international engineering and consultancy firm that operates in sectors such as energy, aviation, infrastructure, urban development and much more. In a presentation of an hour we walked through many different projects, including the design of ports and terminals around the world, as well as an extensive analysis of the renovation of the Van Brienenoordbrug in Rotterdam, which is planned to be done in 2025. The students were delighted to finally see a company present real life cases of topics we study everyday. It was a useful and insightful lecture that showed us what kinds of state of the art engineering solutions are currently being developed in our field.

Lunch lecture TBA

Last week TBA visited us to give a lunch lecture about the inner workings of the company and the process they go through when a client approaches them with a problem. TBA is a company that specialises in simplifying the operations of ports, terminals and warehouses, so that all of their clients can deliver to their respective customers safely and efficiently. They accomplish this goal by combining world-class, end-to-end, integrated software where they can simulate entire ports and terminals with professional consultancy solutions for the entire lifecycle of ports. The students were very interested in what it is the employees do precisely and how the meetings with clients work. It was a very insightful lecture showing us a different side to port design than we are used to.

Lunch lecture ESI Eurosilo BV 10-12-18

On the 10 December ESI Eurosilo came to the TU to give a lunch lecture in collaboration with Dispuut Transportkunde Pandora. Richard, sales director at Eurosilo delivered a presentation on the topic of “Large scale coal storage in a Eurosilo.” The lecture proved very informative in detailing how the company overcomes the typical operational issues faced by silos as well as giving some example projects that have been completed in recent years, including an incredible underground coal storage solution in Helsinki, Finland.   The lecture coincided well with the master course “Dynamics of Materials & Equipment Interaction.” which students are currently following and perhaps some individuals even found direction towards a future graduation project. ESI Eurosilo is also one of the companies TEL students will have the chance to visit during the Germany trip in coming February, so this was an excellent opportunity to get a glimpse of what’s yet to come. For the first time, Dispuut Transportkunde Pandora also offered the lunch lecture to bachelor students as well as TEL master students. This provided a great opportunity for prospective TEL students to get a feel of the topics covered on the master programme and to gain extra knowledge on the types of industry that this track prepares students for. The dispuut plans to extend this offer to future events, so bachelor students are encouraged to keep their eyes on our website to get a chance to be involved in these upcoming opportunities.
