Mieloo & Alexander Excursion

On Thursday the 23rd of May, an excursion took place in collaboration with supply chain consultancy firm Mieloo and Alexander. The day kicked off at 10:00 at the TU with a cup of coffee and a nice presentation detailing the plan for the day ahead and a summary of typical projects at Mieloo and Alexander.  It was extremely interesting to see the wide range of applications that the company provides its expertise to and especially engaging to hear about the specific roles that Robert and co played during these projects. After the presentation and a coffee refill, we departed Delft to have a first hand look at a recent project at the Port of Rotterdam.  The destination of our visit was the company C.Ro, the largest vehicle handling provider in Europe. After some lunch we were given a presentation from Charlotte with a little more background into the company and the reasons behind the technological advancement made in collaboration with M&A.  Together, the two had to implemented an RFID enabled Real Time Locating System (RTLS) to track, trace and locate the vehicles on site. This advancement in onsite technology has revolutionised the day-to-day operations, allowing labour intensive tasks to be eased and a greater level of inventory management to be achieved simultaneously. After our visit, it was time to return to Delft and enjoy the fortunate weather with an afternoon borrel. We were lucky enough to be joined at this point by a few more members of the M&A team and this made for a great chance to learn a little more about what it is like to work for the company in a relaxed atmosphere. Following the borrel, we were treated to a meal and some more drinks to wrap up the day. On behalf of the Dispuut and the students of TEL, I would like to thank M&A and C.Ro for their hospitality and providing us a day to remember.

Accenture Excursie 24/04/19

On the 24th of April, master associations Transportkunde Pandora and Verkeer together organised an excursion to Accenture for TEL and TIL students. The day began at Accenture’s Dutch HQ in south Amsterdam with a welcoming lunch and an introduction from the team who would be giving us an insight into the company itself and their experiences. The students were asked in the beginning what they would like to know from the day and the list of desired expectations were ticked off the list throughout the day. After learning more about Accenture and the work atmosphere, it was time for the case to begin and the brief was the technological advancement of the Amsterdam Bicycle Company. The students were set the challenge of using one of 3 cutting-edge technological approaches to help future proof the company: Machine Learning, Blockchain and Augmented Reality. Whilst developing the ideas, the students were introduced to some of the techniques used by Accenture to catalyse teamwork and aid project development. Using the development procedure, the groups managed to propose a range of ideas that covered machine learning and augmented reality approaches. These ideas were then taken further from a range of perspectives to become a concept ready to be pitched to the bosses of ABC. After the case, the excursion was wrapped up with a borrel on the roof terrace, with an impressive view over the city. A great end to an eye opening visit and a chance for students to reflect a little more on the future internship and career opportunities that are available to them.
