Transportkunde Pandora

On Wednesday the 27th of February, Dispuut Transportkunde Pandora organised an excursion to Nemag.

The day began with a picturesque drive to Zierikzee where Nemag is based and upon arrival we were greeted by Micheal Corbeau and the engineering team at Nemag. Before getting started with the visit, some refreshments were in order, after all what would a trip to Zeeland be without Zeeuwse bolussen to accompany your morning coffee.

Micheal kicked the day off with a introductory presentation about Nemag and its position in the global market. It was extremely interesting to learn a little more about the cutting edge grasp that Nemag holds on the grabber industry and how they are working to innovate and improve in many ways, including through cooperation with the TU Delft.

Having been introduced to the products in the company’s repertoire, in particular the flagship nemaX, it was time to begin the factory tour and see the grabbers and their production in real life. It was great to see the methods Nemag has developed in order to maintain great quality and consistency in its production whilst producing bespoke units.

After the tour, we headed to the quaint town centre and a local restaurant where we were treated to a great lunch.

In the afternoon, a business case was presented to us with the objective of developing a new way to unload ships of bulk material through the separation of  the extraction and transportation processes. The challenge proved not as easy as first thought, yet the TEL students managed to deliver some feasible solutions after brainstorming and development sessions.

After being given a taste of the challenges experienced at the company, we were given a summary of potential graduation projects and internships that are available at Nemag. Students are encouraged to stay in touch for future collaboration opportunities.

The day was wrapped up with some drinks and snacks before we all headed back to Delft. It was a very interesting day and gave us all a great insight into Nemag as a company and its position within our specialisation.
